Random Thoughts Tuesday: Fully Vaxxed!

It’s late in the evening, and I’m exhausted from taking an exercise class at Pure Barre, which was a comedy of errors, but I had to take a quick moment to share that, as of today, I am fully vaccinated! Having had COVID-19, I cannot tell you how happy I am to be vaccinated.

I hope as many people as possible will get the vaccine. I want everyone to be safe. Love you all! Now I’m going to go to bed so my muscles can cry.

Random Thoughts Tuesday: Easter, a Birthday, and Allergies

Happy Tuesday, all! I hope you’re doing well. I can’t believe I haven’t blogged the whole of April. Darn it. I’m so bad at this.

My baby turned 10 on Easter! I don’t know how that happened. I swear he was just born.
We had a small, family only, party, and Dad even got to watch on FaceTime, from Korea. It was 2am his time, but he wasn’t going to miss his boy’s party. Yay for technology!

Prior to the birthday party, the Easter Bunny came. So exciting! Our older son’s girlfriend lives with us (she has her own room), so this is the first time I’ve the Easter Bunny has ever had a chance to buy for a girl. The EB *may* have gone a bit overboard. Her basket was a pink makeup train case, filled with girly goodies.

People who don’t have allergies are the luckiest people in the whole wide world! I have terrible, terrible allergies. I’ve taken shots for more than 20 years (believe it or not they HAVE helped, because my allergies used to be worse), take meds every day, and have prescription eye drops, and I’m still miserable every single spring. My eyes sting, itch, water, swell, and loo, horrible; my throat gets itchy and raw, often leading to laryngitis; my inner ears itch; my sinuses get clogged and ache, and I’m full of gross snot; I sneeze constantly; I randomly break out in hives. And this is BETTER! I love all the beautiful colors of spring, but I dread it every year. I’m generally down for the count most of April and May. Sigh,

Here are a few funnies to get you through the week. Enjoy!

Still one of my favorite social distancing memes. Jane Austen would be proud.
100% Me. I’m an book 36 for the year.

Have a great day, everyone!

Random Thoughts Tuesday: Cherry blossoms (real and fake), tulips carrots, spring, and other stuff

Happy Tuesday! Look at me, posting 2 days in a row. I’m a wild woman.

If you’re not familiar with Random Thoughts Tuesday, it’s hosted by the convivial Stacey, of Stacy Uncorked.

Spring has sprung in the DC metro area and we are all on cherry blossom watch. Apparently they will be at peak bloom sometime next week. For those of you not familiar, in 1912, the Mayor of Tokyo gifted the US 3000 cherry trees. Mrs. Taft, then FLOTUS, and the wife of the Japanese Ambassador planted the first 2 saplings at the tidal basin. The rest were planted around the basin and in a few other areas of DC. Over the past 100+ years, the trees have grown and become an attraction all to themselves. DC holds a cherry blossom festival, and parking is more of a nightmare than usual. Every night on the news, in the weeks leading up to peak bloom, they give you info on the stages of the blossoms, and give you the “most recent” prediction for peak bloom. It’s all very interesting. I saw them in 2019 (remember the year that we all thought sucked, but now seems like a happier, simpler time?), the day after peak bloom. They were still stunning. The day was windy, so the petals fell like soft, fragrant, pink, snow.

-2019 Cherry Blossoms

The last craft workshop I taught before everything shut down last year was making cherry blossoms from napkins. It was a fun day, and I’m super happy to say that I will be teaching it again next week! We will all be socially distanced, masked, and taking al, the precautions required. There were only 6 slots available and they sold out! Woohoo! I love doing workshops! Many of the people who take them are 120% certain that they won’t be able to do it, and I get a thrill out watching how excited they get when they get it right. Yay! I have 4 different workshops coming up, and I am beyond thrilled. What do fake cherry blossoms look like? Well, since you asked:

This was the sample from last year! All napkins! These were bright, but the white and soft pink mix I makelooks surprisingly real.

Several years ago, on some blog (I can’t recall which), I saw a big carrot made from fake tulips, for the front door, and I have been DYING to do it since. Today, I decided was the day. I hauled my happy self to Michael’s, in my new car, Uma, found the supplies (and maaaaaany other things), came home, my wallet much lighter, and got to work. It shaped up BEAUTIFULLY, except…I ran out of tulips. D’oh! I only need one more tulip “bush” to complete it. Guess where I’ll be going tomorrow? Sigh. The following pics are some of the pile I started with, then what it looks like on the bottom. As soon as it’s finished, I’ll post another pic!

Oh, and this beauty, is Uma. She’s a 2021 WV Atlas SEL Premium, and I love her. Isn’t she gorgeous?

March is my favorite month of the year. When I was younger, it was just because of my birthday (this coming Sat!), but then I got married in March, so that made it even more lovely, but now I realize I love it because March holds promise. Flowers push their way out of the sleeping Earth, buds appear on trees, mornings and evenings are cool, afternoons are warm, without being hot, and more often than not, there’s a gentle breeze full of soft scents. March is a unique month, where those of us in the northern hemisphere come out of winter and embrace the possibilities.

One of my favorite quotes about March. Isn’t it lovely?

Look, I get that people like spring. *I* actually like spring, but I have terrible, terrible allergies, and I dread the upcoming weeks of pollen. Be kind to people with allergies. We can’t help the sneezing, watery eyes, and snotty general misery.

Many people have been working from home, or just home, for almost a full year now. Do you think our pets are wondering if we’re ever going to give them some peace and quiet? I mean, my dogs LOVE having everyone home, but sometimes I wonder if they don’t think, “OMG! Would you all just leave for an hour or two so I can get some proper sleep? I haven’t gotten a good 22 hours in a year!”

Okay, I think that’s enough for now. I hope you all have a lovely (allergy free) day. Click the button below to join Stacey and get random.

I’ve been sadly neglecting my blog. Sorry, sorry, sorry, for the 2 or 3 who might be reading. Last week was my 26th wedding anniversary! Somehow that doesn’t seem right. How am I old enough to be married 26 years? Sadly, Mark was gone for yet another anniversary. Of the 26, I think we’ve actually had 12 together, and 1 of those was before he joined the army! We were together for our 25th, at least, but due to the pandemic, our plans had to be scrapped. Maybe we’ll do something big (like the cruise we took for our 20th) for our 30th. Who knows? Maybe we’ll do it for our 27th, to make up for 25 and 26. Or maybe we’ll go to Disney (without the kids!), like we did for our honeymoon. They would not be pleased. Ha!

I was sad during the day, but hubby and I chatted for a while in the morning (night for him), , then I spent some time thinking about everything I could remember of the day (you’d be surprised how much goes on that you just can’t remember), looked at photos, and ate dinner with my family, so I ended the day smiling.

Here is a photo of us on the day, LOOK HOW YOUNG WE WERE!

I hope you all have a lovely day!

March Calendars (Late)

I had this post all ready to go, and thought I posted it, but apparently I saved it to drafts instead! Oops! Sorry if you were looking for my calendars!

March is a busy month for us. In addition to St. Patrick’s Day, when we’re all a little Irish, March holds our anniversary (26 years, this year!), my birthday, and Big Boy’s girlfriend’s birthday. Little Boy’s birthday is a week after mine, in April, so I’m usually busy working on party stuff for him, which eclipses my birthday!
March has always been special to me, because it’s my birthday month (yes, I claim the whole month), but also because it’s the month when much of the Northern Hemisphere slowly starts to wake up from the long winter slumber. While my allergies are awful, so I can’t fully enjoy all the buds pushing their colorful way through the ground, I do love to look at them. Through a window. 😂

I’ve created 2 lovely calendars for the month. I hope you enjoy.

RTT: So tired of unpacking!

Tuesday, again? Ugh. How did that happen? Here are some weirdly random thoughts and other stuff.

I swear my days are just an endless pile of boxes and packing paper. I don’t know how 4 people have so much stuff. Unpacking sucks, but finding places to put everything (even in a large house!), then remembering WHERE you put it, when you need it, are even worse.

Not caring a bit about football, I did not care to watch the Super Bowl (or Superb Owl, for those of you who watch the hilarious, What We Do in the Shadows) this past weekend. I did catch the halftime show, though. Oh, the poor Weeknd. It wasn’t actually a bad show, it just wasn’t a Super Bowl show. He’s too laid back for Super Bowls. And the sound was terrible. Still, I like his music, and applaud him for trying. People are never happy anyway, so what are you going to do?

We’re supposed to get more snow this week! That’s what people get for mocking the groundhog! Personally, I’m thrilled. I love snow! If it’s going to be cold, it might as well snow.

I took this photo at the store the other day. WHY IS THIS A THING?

I’m sure there’s more stuff rattling around in my head, but the sofa is calling my name and I must answer. It’s nap time.

Enjoy your day, and don’t forget to link up with Stacy for RTT fun!

We got our first real snow in over 2 years, today! We awoke to the gray blue light that indicates snow on the ground to find a winter wonderland all around us. To say we were excited would be an understatement. It’s supposed to snow all day! Huzzah!

Hot chocolate and sitting in front of the fireplace are on order before we head back out! We love snow!

February calendar freebie

How is February NEXT WEEK? Seriously, wasn’t it JUST Christmas? The days are slipping by so quickly. Since I had more than a few downloads of my January, Monday start calendars, I figured I’d keep making them for each month. Since it’s February, I went with the obvious, pink. Who doesn’t love pink for February? Enjoy!

Drowning in boxes!

I have been offline for a while, because we recently purchased a house, and I’ve been in the middle of moving. You never realize how much stuff you have until you have to put it in boxes and move it from one place to the other. WHERE DOES IT ALL COME FROM?

Since the military usually takes care of our moves, I’ve never had to do much before now. I also never had to pay for it before now. Holy cow is moving expensive! I had no idea how much it cost! We only moved 11 miles and the cost was staggering. With all the stuff we have though, it was worth the money. Our movers were absolutely fantastic. They worked HARD. I made sure to feed and water them well. I didn’t want them collapsing from weakness or hunger while hauling our stuff around.

Our new house is HUGE and gorgeous and I love it so much! I don’t know that it will be our forever home, but I’m hoping for a good 10-15 years, minimum. I’ve never lived anywhere that long! I can also paint and decorate any way I want. The possibilities are endless! If only the budget was!

Isn’t it beautiful?

Now that all our stuff is moved, I feel like I’m drowning in boxes. They are stacked EVERYWHERE. Honestly, I feel like they’re multiplying in the night. For every box I unpack, I swear 2 more pop up.

I’m going to try to post more now that the bulk of the move is over, but if I’m MIA for a while, send help! I’m probably trapped under a box.
